Blog Entry: Yesterday our poor Socks came up lame in his left front leg. I knew right away it was an abscess, first one he's ever had but he's getting up in years. First one on our property too, I just hope it's not opening a gate of them here. I made it out (wasn't easy with my back) to confirm it was an abscess, got out my hoof knife and cleaned up the sole a little. As soon as I cut off one part of his sole I found a very small area that looked pretty rough and when I mashed it it would expell a very small amount of fluid. So I cut as much as of a hole down as I could safely cut with my hoof knife and soaked the hoof for about a half our. It was the only area of the sole that was tender so I reckon that has to be where he's abscessing. UGHHHHH. I'm really worried about him cause he's pushing 26 years old now and at that age I know any little thing can start a chain of downward health that will take them away from you. And we're pretty attached to that old boy. While his hoof was soaking Josie fed him treats and danced around under his head and he gave her kissed over and over. He's so sweet.
